Library Acquisitions (print and electronic)
- Forwarding suggestions.
- The Wise Law Library welcomes law faculty suggestions for print or electronic resources (books, journals, databases) to be purchased for the library’s collection. Please direct these to the Assistant Director for Faculty Services, via memo, phone: 2-2705, or e-mail: jane.thompson@colorado.edu.
- Evaluating suggestions.
- The AD for Faculty Services will get additional information from the faculty member, as needed, and consult with the Library Director. All purchases will be considered in accordance with the Wise Law Library’s Collection Development Policy - http://www.colorado.edu/Law/lawlib/ts/cdpolicy/
- Making decisions.
- The faculty member will be notified promptly of the Library’s decision to accept or decline the recommendation. If a decision is made to decline the purchase recommendation, the Library will pursue other avenues for acquiring the resources on a short-term basis through campus libraries, or regional and national interlibrary loan networks. In the case of a database request, the Library may pursue a trial subscription prior to committing to a regular subscription. The Library may also opt for a shared database acquisition with campus libraries or other consortia.
Faculty Book Acquisitions: Faculty Development (FD) Orders
- FD Funds.
- Full-time, regular faculty members receive an allocation of $1,500 each fiscal year in Faculty Development (FD) funds. These monies may be used to purchase legal materials for faculty research, in addition to other purposes.
- Submitting an FD order request.
- To purchase a book using FD funds, send a link to the Amazon.com record for the book, or send the title, author, preferred edition and format, publication date, and ISBN (if available) to the Technical Services Librarian via memo or e-mail: yumin.jiang@colorado.edu. She forwards the appropriate bibliographic and vendor information to Cynthia Carter in the Faculty Assistants’ Office. Ms. Carter places the order and charges the faculty member’s FD funds. She will also notify the faculty member when the item arrives, or she will advise the faculty member of any delays or vendor cancellations.
